A new development has intensified the ongoing conflict between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, following the circulation of a controversial tweet allegedly posted by Kenny Okolugbo, Akpabioโs Communications and Strategy Consultant.
The tweet, which was later deleted, seemed to show Okolugbo begging for forgiveness from the suspended senator representing Kogi Central and admitting involvement in a scheme to frame her.
The tweet alleged to be posted by Okulogbo before deletion read:
โTo err is human, but forgiveness is divine. I wish to use this Salah period as an avenue to sincerely apologise to my Boss for forgiveness and to inform Nigerians that I have been an integral part of the plans orchestrated by Senator Godswill Akpabio and his cohorts to frame up Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. This deceptive plot can be traced to our numerous meetings in London with Sandra Duru, manipulation of Senator Natashaโs voice recordings to discredit her as well as the hacking and cloning of Senator Natashaโs phones. All these were carefully calculated and desperate attempts to ridicule Sen Natasha and tarnish her image.โ
Its rapid spread online sparked renewed speculation about the seriousness of the crisis that has gripped the Senate since Akpoti-Uduaghanโs suspension in March.
Lately and in a bid to respond to the viral tweet, Okolugbo has firmly denied authoring the tweet, releasing a video statement to reject the message as fake and clarify his stance.
His words:
โI was woken up by my friend this morning. I was surprised by a tweet that has been circulating. This is obviously from the pit of hell. How will I ask Senator Natasha to forgive me for a case that I held very strongly that she lied against Senator Godswill Akpabio? For a case in which I have not only been involved but I am the Consultant for Communications and Strategy to the Senate President. The details that are unfolding will shock a lot of Nigerians. This tweet was not from me, and we are investigating to find out the desperation that could have led someone to send out the tweet. I condemn it and disclaim it. I am telling Nigerians that this is an act of desperation.โ
The incident underscores the escalating tensions and entrenched divisions within the Senate, as both sides continue to exchange allegations and defend their positions.
While many Nigerians gold their hands to be entertained by the ongoing theatric presently playing out in the national assembly, others are enthusiastic to know the outcome of the numerous suits filed in court concerning the duo of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Godswill Akpabio, and on whose side the pendulum of justice will swing.
