Nigeria has introduced new rules through the National Universities Commission.
People with honorary degrees can no longer use “Dr.” before their names. They must instead use post-nominal letters like DSc (Honoris Causa) to show the award is honorary.
The “Dr.” title is now reserved only for those with a real PhD or qualified medical doctors.
The move aims to protect the credibility of genuine academic and medical titles.
