Femi Otedola has revealed that he once planned to retire permanently because his savings were generating substantial returns from Nigerian banks.
However, after his daughter told her schoolmates that her father’s job was to “sleep every morning,” the billionaire said he was inspired to return to active business.
Nigerian billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has shared a humorous but insightful story about what motivated him to return to active business after initially deciding to retire.
Speaking about a period when he was comfortably living off returns from his investments, Otedola revealed that he had no plans to work again because his savings were generating significant income through Nigerian banks.
“I never planned to work again because my savings was earning 35% from Nigerian banks,” he said.
However, a conversation involving his daughter changed his perspective.
According to Otedola, his daughter was asked in school what her father did for a living. Her response caught him off guard and became a turning point in his life.
“But when my daughter was asked in school what I do, she said: ‘My daddy sleeps every morning.’ That woke me up to start a business,” he added.
The remark has since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians amused by the innocence of children and others marveling at the level of wealth required to live comfortably without working.
