Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected impostor posing as a retired major general in Kaduna state.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the suspect was apprehended on Wednesday at the “Strike Force Base” in the Sabo area of Kaduna.
Citing sources, the publication said the arrest followed intelligence that led troops to the suspect at about 9:14am.
Makama said the suspect, now in military custody undergoing preliminary investigation, was allegedly impersonating A.T. Ibrahim, a retired major general.
It added that the suspect would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution after the completion of initial military procedures.
The publication quoted sources as saying that investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the impersonation, including the motive, and to determine whether other persons were involved.
