Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure re-election in the 2027 presidential election, saying Nigerians will judge the administration by its performance.
Speaking in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio said the Tinubu administration inherited a struggling economy but had taken measures that, according to him, had significantly improved the financial position of state governments.
He claimed that 27 states were unable to meet salary and pension obligations when Tinubu assumed office, but said the situation had changed under the current administration.
> “In 2027, Nigerians will separate the chaff from the grains and re-elect President Tinubu for a second term in office,” Akpabio said.
The Senate President said the All Progressives Congress (APC) would approach the 2027 campaign with what he described as the administration’s “unprecedented achievements” as its major selling point.
He also dismissed the opposition’s chances of unseating Tinubu, arguing that its leading figures had yet to present Nigerians with a convincing alternative to the APC government.
Akpabio further defended the performance of the 10th National Assembly, saying lawmakers had recorded significant achievements while cooperating with the executive on programmes considered beneficial to Nigerians.
He urged senators who may not return to the National Assembly after the 2027 elections to continue supporting the APC and Tinubu’s administration.
The Senate President also advised lawmakers not to be distracted by criticism on social media, which he described as “garbage in, garbage out.”
His comments come as political parties intensify preparations and begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
