
The Rector, Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara has been commended by the Honorable Commissioner, Ministry of Higher Education, Professor Nyerovwo Tonukari for naming the Polytechnic’s ultramodern Administrative Building built from IGR after the Polytechnic Visitor and Executive Governor of Delta State, RT. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori.
The Honorable Commissioner gave the commendation during a visit to the institution to sensitize and encourage students of the Polytechnic to subscribe to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund). Prof Tonukari reiterated that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori prioritize the educational advancement of Deltans, noting that the NELFund scheme of the Federal Government align perfectly with the M.O.R.E Agenda of the Governor.
The visit according to the H.C. is to ascertain the level of students’ response and enrollment, as well as identify inherent challenges, if any. Professor Tonukari urged the students to maximize the opportunity and key into the scheme, stressing that the state government is dedicated to removing financial barrier to learning. He thereafter encouraged eligible students to visit NELFund portal immediately to begin their application and secure their academic future.
Professor Tonukari in his closing stated that the state government is proud and happy with the Rector with his vision of repositioning the Polytechnic. According to the Honorable Commissioner, Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara is the fastest growing Polytechnic in Nigeria and best sought after in Delta state giving the numbers of students that subscribed to the Polytechnic for admission. He commended the Rector, Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri for the prudent and judicious use of the Polytechnic’s lean IGR.
The Rector, Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri thanked the Honorable Commissioner and members of his entourage for the visit. He used the occasion of the visit to appreciate the H.C. for inaugurating the Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori Administrative Building on behalf of the Visitor and Executive Governor of Delta State during the 2nd Combined Convocation ceremony of the Polytechnic. He further thanked the H.C. and his Ministry for the ceaseless and innumerable supports given to the Polytechnic with regards to prompt payment of salaries, implementation of promotions, and facilitating correspondence between the Polytechnic and the Visitor.
On NELFund, the Rector informed the H.C. that eligible students subscription has improved greatly, noting that the Polytechnic is not resting on its oars to sensitive and encourage students to apply to the scheme. Professor Biri highlighted some of the efforts made which includes: setting up a standing committee on NELFund that will interface with the students on regular bases, designation of a Desk Officer in the office of the Dean, Students Affairs; the use of available medium and fora to sensitize and encourage students of the benefits, and also allaying their fears and misgiving towards the scheme; lecturers encouraged to take out few minutes from lecture hour talk to the students concerning the scheme; and positioning of banners in strategic locations within the campus.
