American rapper Nicki Minaj has drawn attention to Nigeria’s security situation after reposting a statement by Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi concerning reported killings and abductions in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Minaj reposted Obi’s statement on Thursday, September 17, shortly after he raised concerns over reports that some of those abducted during attacks in the area had allegedly been killed, while others remained unaccounted for.
In his statement, Obi condemned the reported violence, describing the situation as a systematic devaluation of human life.
He also called for intelligence-led operations, stronger community security, improved coordination and sustained action against criminal networks responsible for killings, kidnappings and ransom demands.
Obi had earlier raised concerns on August 27 over reports of the abduction of hundreds of Nigerians in Borgu, including women, children and elderly people.
Minaj’s repost brought renewed attention to Obi’s message among her large international audience and sparked reactions on social media, with users discussing Nigeria’s worsening security challenges and the need for stronger measures to protect affected communities.
The repost, however, does not by itself establish Minaj’s broader position on Nigerian politics or indicate that she independently verified all the claims contained in Obi’s statement.
