The All Progressives Congress has donated N52 million to survivors and families of the 37 miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Niger State.
Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, disclosed this on Tuesday when he received the National Working Committee of the APC, led by its National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, during a condolence visit over the incident.
Bago expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the visit and financial support to the affected families and survivors.
He said a state committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, in collaboration with the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Farouk Bahago, would ensure that the donation reached the intended beneficiaries.
Earlier, Yilwatda conveyed the condolences of the APC to the government and people of Niger State over the incident.
He described the situation as a difficult moment for the state, which he said had recently faced several security challenges.
2. “This is not a good moment for the country, especially Niger State,” Yilwatda said.
He added, “Recently, you’ve been bedevilled by so many challenges, especially security threats, but we can assure you that our hearts and prayers are with you.”
Yilwatda also prayed for strength and comfort for the affected families, assuring them that the difficult period would eventually pass.
He said the party believed that evil would not prevail over the goodness of the people.
The APC national chairman commended Governor Bago for his handling of the incident and assured him of the party’s support for his administration.
Yilwatda later led members of the National Working Committee to the palace of the Emir of Minna for another condolence visit.
The Emir, Alhaji Farouk Bahago, thanked the APC leadership for the visit and financial support to the families affected by the incident.
