Nigerian content creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has announced plans to host Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka on his livestream, promising viewers a session filled with sophisticated English and literary discussions.
Peller disclosed his intention during a recent livestream, telling his audience that he would provide more details about the proposed collaboration soon.
“I want to do a stream with this man that knows book for the whole Africa, Wole Soyinka,” he said.
“I want to do a big stream with him. Don’t worry, I will announce it soon. I will tell you guys.”
The TikTok personality described the proposed broadcast as “a proper English day,” suggesting that viewers should expect an unusual experience compared with his regular livestreams.
“There is nothing like uneducated person no watch that live because you’ll be hearing some grammar, some talk from our forefathers. Everything you will be hearing it,” he added.
The proposed collaboration has attracted interest because of the contrast between Peller’s informal, humour-driven online content and Soyinka’s reputation as one of Africa’s most distinguished literary figures.
Soyinka, a Nigerian playwright, poet and novelist, made history in 1986 when he became the first African to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Over the decades, the literary icon has produced numerous acclaimed works, including The Lion and the Jewel, The Swamp Dwellers, The Interpreters and Death and the King’s Horseman.
In July 2024, President Bola Tinubu renamed the National Arts Theatre in Lagos after Soyinka as part of activities marking the writer’s 90th birthday.
Although Peller has expressed his desire to feature the renowned writer on his livestream, he has yet to announce a date for the proposed session. It also remains unclear whether Soyinka has accepted the invitation.
The planned broadcast, if confirmed, would bring together two prominent Nigerians from different generations and creative backgrounds, potentially offering Peller’s audience a different kind of online conversation.
