Two members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria tragically lost their lives in the early hours of Tuesday, April 29, 2025, after being run over by a speeding trailer in Benin City, Edo State.
According to The People’s Insight, the fatal incident occurred directly in front of the University of Benin (UNIBEN). Eyewitnesses reported that the victims were riding a motorcycle when they were struck by a trailer en route to Lagos, which crushed them on impact before fleeing the scene.
One of the deceased was identified as Mustapha, thanks to an ID card recovered at the site. The second victim, whose identity remains unknown, suffered severe head injuries, with his skull completely crushed.
An eyewitness recounted the horrifying moment:
“The accident happened so suddenly. The trailer was heading towards Lagos, and before anyone could react, the two men were lying motionless on the road with their heads crushed. It’s unclear whether they were trying to stop the trailer or simply passing by, but it’s heartbreaking to see them die this way.”
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, stated:
“Yes, the accident happened, and unfortunately, the two men lost their lives. I am currently awaiting further details from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area, who is handling the investigation.”
The remains of the victims have been deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) morgue for further examination.
