At least five individuals were injured in a tragic accident involving a funeral convoy in the Idimu area of Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State.
The crash occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, when a faulty mini bus, part of a funeral procession, lost control and rammed into another vehicle. The convoy was transporting a corpse from Ejigbo to Ikotun and comprised three commercial minibuses and a Toyota Space Bus.
Eyewitnesses reported that three women and two men sustained varying degrees of injuries during the incident.
A bystander, identified as Foluke, recounted the chaotic scene.
“Some of the buses were parked at the layby, picking up passengers, when one suddenly crashed into another. The impact flung several passengers from the vehicle. It was only after rushing to assist that we realized they were part of a funeral convoy—we saw a coffin inside one of the buses,” she said.
The driver of the affected minibus confirmed that the vehicle had shown signs of mechanical failure earlier in the journey.
“While coming from Ejigbo, the bus developed a fault and started moving slowly. It seemed fine after a brief stop, but as we approached Idimu, the brakes failed completely. I lost control and crashed into the bus ahead. I never imagined the day would end like this,” he said, visibly shaken.
Emergency responders and local residents quickly rushed the injured victims to a nearby hospital for treatment. The deceased, whose remains were initially being conveyed, was also transferred to a different vehicle so the burial could proceed.
