A devastating fire broke out on Friday at the popular mobile phone market in Kano, Kano State, destroying over 300 shops.
The market chairman, Jamilu Gama, confirmed the incident and said the blaze raged for six to seven hours before it was eventually contained.
He noted that the most affected part of the market was the section where mobile phones and accessories are sold.
Gama estimated that the total value of goods lost in the fire could run into billions of naira.
He also mentioned that, as of the time of the interview, the cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
โThere was a huge loss of property and assets. In a single shop, you could find items worth N500million, and in some cases, up to N1 billion โ all completely burnt,โ Gama mentioned.
