Kidnappers who abducted National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja have demanded a ransom of ₦20 million for each victim.
The corps members were abducted on Wednesday, August 26, along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, shortly after completing their three-week orientation exercise in Bayelsa State.
A family member of one of the victims said the abductors had contacted the family and demanded ₦20 million for her release.
“One of our daughters who was kidnapped on her way from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing three weeks orientation camp. The kidnappers are requesting ₦20 million,” the family source said.
The Kogi State Police Command had earlier confirmed that several passengers, including NYSC members, were abducted when gunmen attacked two buses along the route.
The police subsequently announced that 11 victims, including the drivers of the two buses, had been rescued following a joint operation by security agencies.
However, some of the corps members and other passengers are still believed to be in captivity, while security operatives continue efforts to locate and rescue the remaining victims and apprehend the attackers.
Families of those still missing have appealed to the Federal Government, the NYSC and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure their safe release.
